"There’s certainly much to admire here. It’s clear this is a work from an accomplished cinematic voice. It’s weird, abstract, but also tonally very intriguing. And, the visuals are top-notch. Performances are solid and we appreciate the surrealistic tone. There are moments of comedic brilliance and we thought it was a creative approach to tackling one’s existential crisis visually.
Ultimately, though, it’s a film that we just had trouble latching on to narratively. Largely, we admit this was probably your directorial intention. The film is meant to be surreal—almost Charlie Kaufman-esque. It’s not a conventional story and isn’t intended to be. At 20 minutes, admittedly, it’s a hurdle for us and makes us more critical of the film’s surreal and meandering nature.
That being said, we don’t mean to discount your cinematic vision. We appreciate that maybe we’re just not the target audience for this. We wish you much luck as you continue your festival and screening run. We think you have a terrific visual eye and mastery of tone."
